Queens Of The Stone Age - Feel Good Hit Of The Summer

A QOTSA and Josh Homme, you certainly know how to make a repetitive song about drugs sound awesome!

The first time I saw QOTSA live it was at the Sydney Big Day out with Nick Oliveri playing totally naked and freaking everyone quite a bit. It's sad that he's not in the band these days - I guess he freaked everyone in the band out a bit too much as well. It was certainly a memorable set, and I went out and purchased their album the next day.

I once heard that the whole QOTSA band were in drug and alcohol rehab and decided that they'd play a free gig for the patients in the hospital, which I thought was a really nice thing to do.

Unfortunately Homme and Co had their power cut shortly into the first song... they had decided to open up with Feel Good Hit Of The Summer. Nicotine, valium, vicodine, marijuana, ecstasy and alcohol, co co co co co co co cocaineeeeeee!

Local Natives - World News

A five piece based in Silver Lake, LA, Local Natives create some damn fine electric guitar driven folky tunes.

I'm loving their debut album, Gorilla Manor, at the moment and World News is certainly on of my favourite tunes being played of late.

I caught this clip late last night on TV and just had to feature it today. Although, if anyone has any idea what's going on in the film clip please let me know. As I'm a bit lost, but I don't mind at all, the song is so great, getting lost in the clip is half the fun.

Sonseed - Jesus Is A Friend Of Mine

When ever I'm feeling a bit down in the dumps some reggae is a great way to lift my spirits, and when it comes to spirits there's none better than our lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Yew, JC, my man upstairs.

Sonseed, are a cracking Christian reggae band. I have no idea why these guys are still not around, I would have imagined they'd be packing out stadiums and waxing lyrical with Kings Of Leon and planning global domination, one soul at a time. Oh well, sadly they're not still touring the world, but you can still check out their piss-funny clip on YouTube.

But what's with those lyrics - Jesus came and touched down inside, he's like a mounty, he always gets his man. Er, maybe they should rethink those lyrics guys.

Faith No More - Epic

Faith No More, Epic - I could be talking about the song title or using the word to describe the band and Mike Patton, because everything about Faith No More in the 90's was truly epic, and it's good to see that Mike Patton is never to far away from controversy. If you haven't yet seen Mike having a rant about Wolfmother, then you must... video is below.

This tune has to be up there with the best songs to ever come out of the 90's, we wanted it all but we couldn't have it, but it was fine, because at least we had this tune.

Blink 182 - Adam's Song

So it seems the universe wants me to talk about Blink 182 at the moment. I had chat about them to my cousin last night, I played a few songs this afternoon and the wife was like 'omg, like I totally have been listening to Blink all afternoon', and friends also posted a link on Facebook. Ohhhh spooky, psychic links and shit.

Anyway, this song is pretty cool, used to get me really emotional. In my late teens my brother and I didn't have a very good relationship at all (don't worry folks, all super happy bro love these days) and we all had issues to work out. The lyrics in this song reminded me so much about my brother that I'd left behind when I moved interstate... and his name is Adam. Yep I know, spooky right!

Well anyway, yep, I love Blink, even though it's very teenage years, they're punk rock and dick jokes will always hold a special place in my heart.

Adam this one is for you dude, rock on... punk styles with big white socks pulled up to ya shins with skate shoes on and baggy shorts. It's the way Blink would want it.

The Horrors - Who Can Say

The Horrors 2009 album, Primary Colours, was one of the stand out highlights for me.
Although I didn't hear a hell of a lot of it on the radio or on friends stereos, it certainly signaled a change in direction for the band.

Channeling their inner Cure and Joy Division, The Horrors produced a mind-blowing album that left me wanting more.

Seeing as it's Halloween week, I thought I might as well up up some of The Horrors to get the spooky theme going.

I struggled so hard with what song to pick off the album, as they're all so damn good. But I finally went with Who Can Say. But you can bet the rest of the songs will feature soon enough.

Beck - Loser

When people think of Scientology they think of freaks like Tom Cruise trying to brainwash people into spending all their money on cool stuff like maroon uniforms and science fiction novels, but they forget that Scientology has giving us some great things over the years, like er, science fiction novels, and Beck!

He has to be the coolest Scientologist in the world. He writes sweet tunes and looks like he could care less while doing it.

He'll be touring the world long after we leave this planet - Futurama styles, with his head floating in fluid, locked in a jar, rocking out with his disabled robot band.

I don't care if your a Loser Beck, your OK by me.

Sparkadia - Too Much To Do

It's just over two years old but this tune has rocketed up my all time played list as well as the rest of Sparkadia's tunes from their awesome album Postcards. From the first spin this album was set on high rotation and made up a good chunk of the playlist to my 2008.

Too Much To Do pretty much always features on my playlists while sitting around the back porch drinking with friends, it goes great with some afternoon sunshine, mates and a few gin and tonics in hand.

It just makes me happy and chilled when ever I listen to it, and that's can't be a bad thing

Enjoy!

Ball Park Music - iFly

Hey all, been feeling a bit sick today and lying in bed, which has kind of sucked, but while I was lying in bed listening to the radio and feeling sorry for myself I heard this song, and thought of all of you.

My FB group page for the blog (http://on.fb.me/cUacxq) has reached over 500 members, so I was pretty stoked about that and this song is my way of saying thanks to all the lovely people who have shared links, clicked like, tweeted, and invited people to the group page.

So to all you awesome folks out there, this song is for you.

Metallica - Enter Sandman

I saw a metal documentary last night that blew my mind and it got me thinking about when I first started to appreciate metal. I've always been more of a rock guy, but when I was about 15 a friend of mine gave me a cassette copy of Metallica's Black album, and boy did I thrash that.

From the opening track I was hooked. Their heavy guitar riffs and epic lyrics were something I was not used to. I created a mosh pit for one in my bedroom, head banging from wall-to-wall, jumping from my bed to the couch, throwing devil horns like they were going out of fashion.

A wise man once said 'metal doesn't exclude the freaks, it brings them together for one common goal, which is killer music. It makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. If you don't get it, you probably never will. And if you don't, that's cool, we're doing just fine without you'.

Hush little baby, don't say a word
Never mind that noise you heard
It's just the beasts under your bed
In your closet, in your head

Exit, light
Enter, Night
Take my hand
We're off to never-never land

Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor

Stop making the eyes at me, and I'll stop making the eyes at you, what is is that surprises me is that I don't really want you to... ah, love it.

The year was 2006, the little lady and I had moved into the greatest share house of all time - The House Of Rock. Bodhi living in the spare room with Loretta and an assortment of drunk friends and sometimes randoms sprawled out over the lounge room floor every Friday and Saturday night.

It was the place to be every Friday night, sitting in the back yard around the table, smashing beers and cocktails like alcohol and livers were going out of fashion... and playing great tunes.

Every time this song would come on we'd all jump up from our chairs run to the hallway and dance like absolute fools, drinking what ever bottle of spirit was lying near by, and not stopping our little mosh group until the song was over.

We certainly didn't look good in our hallway dancefloor but by god were we having fun. So crank it up and dance like an absolute fool and have a shot for me!

May the house of rock live on...
