Foals - Inhaler

Cannot stop playing Inhaler by the Foals ATM!!!

It’s the first taste ahead of the new album which is due for release early next February.

The band will be coming to Australia playing the Big Day Out tour as well as a few select side shows. If you haven’t seen them live yet they make sure you do, their live show is certainly one to remember.

Mutemath - Allies

Mutemath are coming to Australia in May and I for one couldn't be happier!

Sure, they're album Odd Soul was one of the best kick-arse albums of 2011, and yes the lead single Blood Pressure had one of the best film clips. But it's the new film clip for Allies which has got me super-pumped for their live show.

Seriously, check out this mind altering live set! That light wall is amazing! Then there's the band and the crowd, it's damn near impossible to tell who's having the most fun.

Sure as hell looks like a live show worth checking out.

Fleetwood Mac - Rhiannon

Sorry for the lack of songs of late, I've been flat out, but thankfully I've been flat out seeing gigs!

I was lucky enough to catch the amazing Stevie Nicks live in concert the other week and she certainly impressed. Her voice still sounds as amazing as it did in the 70's while her band proceeded to blow minds all over the stadium.

One of the stand out tracks from the night was Rhiannon, it really made the show for me. The band did a crazy 10min instrumental introduction which was amazing, before Stevie emerged from the back of the stage howling in that supremely powerful voice.

Ben Folds - Bitches Ain't Shit

On Friday night I went and saw Ben Folds live at the State Theatre, and he was great to watch live.

He's such an entertainer and loves talking to the audience about the songs and giving a bit of back story, which makes for such a good show.

One of the awesome things that Ben Folds has done over the last few years is pick a song (generally from a very different genre of music) and do a cover version.

On this tour he performed a Ke$ha song - I knew that girl was 'nasty' but hearing her lyrics performed by Ben Folds really hit home how much of a skanky lady she is (google the lyrics to Sleazy). Haha, but he made it sound so lovely and nice.

One of my favourite Ben Folds' covers is a Dr Dre tune! I saw him perform it live at Glastonbury back in 2008, and the crowd went nuts. Oh yeah, there's a bit of naughty language on this one, so consider yourself warned.

The Temper Trap - Love Lost

Today's song is brought to you by all might Danksy...

As good in stereo as in concert, the Melbourne boys tried-and-true formula of “start off soft and contain enough indecipherable sounds that punters can make-pitched noises to sing along” struck gold with “Love Lost”. The combination of Merv Hughes stretching routines and memories of hellacious cross-country runs is enough to certify the video as all-time, but the song’s got enough panache to stand on its own as one of the Temper Trap’s classics.

Not known for their massive onstage presence, the last time they played in Sydney with the Joy Formidable (with what can only be described as the largest green garbage ban in history as a backdrop) the Trap owned it. Whilst it won’t get you jumping off the walls or reflecting on life, it’ll leave you better than when you encountered it.

Weezer - Only In Dreams

They say only in dreams, but last night mine came true!

I was going to pick Ash or We Are Scientists as song of the day today, as last night I saw them co-headlining together and as expected, they were both amazing. I was smiling from ear-to-ear for the whole concert, and already thinking what songs I would pick to go on the blog.

And then came the encore...

Both bands hit the stage, two drum kids, and 5 guitars all going at once. I was pretty pumped to be seeing two of my favourite bands in one go, and then they kicked into Weezer's tune, Only In Dreams. It's one of my all time favourite tunes! I was in duck heaven.

A wave of excitement washed over me as I guzzled the end of my 13th beer, threw an arm around my mate and sang my little heart out.

Thanks Ash and We Are Scientists, and thanks Weezer, you're all bloody awesome.

PS - this isn't the film clip to this song. There isn't one, so I went with the Anime clip. haha, enjoy.

Kasabian - Empire

Kasabian are one of my all-time favourites! They're so damn good when it comes to a live show, and after three albums the band has bucked modern trends and actually come up with three distinctively different albums that don't sound exactly like the last.

They're back in Australia at the moment much to my delight, so I thought why not give the Leicestershire lads some SOTD loving by showing you one of my favourite Kasabian tunes.

This clip is great, although it's a tad confusing as the film clip show's a runner being shot, but it's not the clip to their tune Shoot The Runner which is off the same album.

Anyway, it's a cracker tune, with a killer clip. Can't wait to see them live again! What's your favourite Kasabian tune?

The Big Pink - Crystal Visions

What to do, what to do? I’ve got so many albums in my ‘added in the last 2 months’ play lists that I’m continually fighting with myself over what to listen to.
Yeasayer, Hot Chip, Edward Sharpe, Broken Bells, Vampire Weekend, Surfer Blood, Temper Trap and The Big Pink.

The Big Pink has been winning a few of these battles, thanks to track one on their album, Crystal Visions. It’s an epic song that sets up the album perfectly.

Get on board people.
