Glenn Frey - The Heat Is On

I was watching a movie called '30 Minutes Or Less' with Danny McBride and Jesse Eisenberg, pretty decent film and this cracking old tune was featured during a car chase.

Jogged my memory back to where I first heard this track, as part of the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack. Now that's a cracking movie, Eddie Murphy at his best.

I'm not sure what Glenn Frey is up to these days but his track The Heat Is On has certainly stood the test of time. A true great 80's tune.

Enjoy!

Led Zeppelin - D'yer Mak'er

Howdy folks, today I got chatting with a friend of mine who’s a huge 70’s/80’s rock tragic. We started talking about her favourite tunes and what she’s been listening to lately and the response came quick and fast.

The always lovely lady Ashlee Adams shot back, "Zeppelin, D’yer Mak'er". Ash stated it was her favourite song of all time, which is always a touch call to make when talking tunes but when questioned she couldn’t even pin point what it was about the song that made it her favourite.

After a brief quizzing, Ash put it down to the fact that every time the song is played, no matter how she’s feeling, she’ll be happy by the time it finishes. Well that and the fact that she thinks that Bonham on the drums is just EPIC.

Seems like reasonable reasons to me!

Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx - Nightcall

One of my favourite movies of the year, produced one of my favourite soundtracks of the year, which lead me to one of my favourite songs of the year.

Of course I'm talking about the epically awesome Drive!

Gosling, what a dream boat! He also plays a pretty decent brutally crazy man.

I love this song and the opening scene of the movie, they go so well together and have such an amazing 80's vibe.

Hunters & Collectors - Throw Your Arms Around Me

They're as Aussie as Vegemite, thongs, and AFL footy.

Hunters & Collectors were an essential part of any Australian's late 80' and 90's music collections. Like I've mentioned before, I was thankful enough to grow up in a house where H&C were part of our staple music diet.

This is such an amazing song, could easily be up there in the top ten Aussie tunes of all time. And it also sounds amazing when done by Eddie Vedder.

Not very often that your favourite musician does a cover of one of your parent's favourite bands. Quality.

Hunters & Collectors - Say Goodbye

I was only five years old when this track came out and for me Hunters & Collectors make up part of my childhood sound track.

I loved how my parents used to play music late at night, and I could listen to their music slowly making it's way up the dark long corridor. I knew I was in for some sweet Hunters & Collectors as soon as that big chunky bass line starts up.

Mark Seymour has to be one of Australia's all-time greatest musicians, and I am so glad that my parents got me onto him at a younger age. Even if it did take me a few years to come around and admit my parents liked good music.

Thanks guys!

The Thought Criminals - Fuck The Neighbours

This one comes from a rad old school Sydney rocker who goes by the name of Brent...

Me and my old school mates used to see this band an a regular basis around the traps in Sydney in the early eighties.

They were loud, they were fast, they were discordant, they were everything a pissed out of it twenty year old could ask for!

I remember one particular gig in an upstairs single room smoke pit where a tall skinny shirtless hippy guy started pissing and rotating in an ever increasing circle as no one wanted to get pissed on everyone was jammed tight against the walls as the band still upped out it's inner-city 3 chord angst! When his rotating piss act finished he was quickly removed from the venue, without any violence. The crowd filled the void and danced on his huge steamy pool of hippy piss!

This version of the song is the reunion version that does not have the same energy as the early days but the passion is still there! The line of lyrics use to be '"Fuck the neighbours!................. Fuck the neighbours!....................... Dog! Which we thought was the funniest thing ever!

Calvin Harris - Acceptable In The 80's

To keep the love vibe flowing over from yesterday I've gone with some early Calvin Harris for today's tune.

I first saw Calvin Harris live at the FIB festival in Spain. I'd never heard of him but it seemed that every hot chick in Spain had! Clothes were flying everywhere, sweat poured off everyone, and litre beers were being downed at an alarming rate. To say there was a lot of love flowing would be an understatement.

As soon as I heard Calvin telling me that he had much love for me simply because I was born in the 80's, I know I would be a fan. It might have been the litre beers, or the bottomless vodka redbulls (god bless the Spanish free-pour) but I was starting to lose my shit. The shirt was ripped off and stupid lunatic dancing had already commenced.

So this one goes out to all the kids of the 80's, I've certainly got hugs and love for you all.

Chromeo - Don't Turn The Lights On

I don't know much about Chromeo besides the fact that they're an electro-funk duo that hail from Canada.

They also sound very 80's, well at least on this single anyway. I came across this clip on the net and well, it freaked the shit out of me. There's some very strange shit going on here, and some bloody huge eyeballs. I mean I get the lights fading in and out and the eyeballs being brightly lit, but what's with the floating eyeballs and roots. Strange!

Anyway, check it out. Just make sure you're not wasted, otherwise it could mess you up permanently.
