Last night I went and watched The Mess Hall belt out their brand of killer dirty blues rock and just like all the other crowds who have watched The Mess Hall over the last decade, we were not disappointed.
The Mess Hall are one of my favourite Aussie bands of the last decade. With six awesome albums and EPs they've got plenty of killer tunes but The Mess Hall really show their awesomeness when it comes to their rockin' live shows.
Two dudes, pumping out some serious noise. I've seen them at least 10 times and every single show just gets better and better.
So this weekend is going to be The Mess Hall appreciation extravaganza. I'm busting out all the albums and turning it up loud.
Two cracking EPs and now one awesome debut LP, Sydney's Holiday's certainly know how to make some catchy pop-rock.
I went and saw them play live at the Annandale Hotel last night and was super-impressed with how tight they sounded live. Also have to chuck out a mention to the Seth Rogan look-a-like drummer, I just wanted him to bust out a joke in between songs!
Broken Bones is one of their stand out tracks from their album Post Paradise, and was great last night. The film clip has some pretty cool visuals as well, so check it out. Sadly the keyboard stand from the film clip didn't make the live show...
This one comes from a rad old school Sydney rocker who goes by the name of Brent...
Me and my old school mates used to see this band an a regular basis around the traps in Sydney in the early eighties.
They were loud, they were fast, they were discordant, they were everything a pissed out of it twenty year old could ask for!
I remember one particular gig in an upstairs single room smoke pit where a tall skinny shirtless hippy guy started pissing and rotating in an ever increasing circle as no one wanted to get pissed on everyone was jammed tight against the walls as the band still upped out it's inner-city 3 chord angst! When his rotating piss act finished he was quickly removed from the venue, without any violence. The crowd filled the void and danced on his huge steamy pool of hippy piss!
This version of the song is the reunion version that does not have the same energy as the early days but the passion is still there! The line of lyrics use to be '"Fuck the neighbours!................. Fuck the neighbours!....................... Dog! Which we thought was the funniest thing ever!
