Daft Punk - Da Funk

The other night I came across this blast from the past and just had to post it.

Da Funk is an old favourite of mine, you can't help but feel for the big sad dog as he bumbles his way around New York city looking for friends and playing his tunes.

You can always rely on Daft punk for a killer clip, and Da Funk is no exception. It's also directed by Spike Jonze who has made some of my all time favourite clips so I was always gonna be a fan of this one.

And if you're feeling bad for Charlie the dog, don't worry, things get better for him in the sequel clip for Fresh.

Theophilus London - Last Name London

Sorry for the delay in post people, haven't been spending any time on the blog which is horrible I know, but I have still been listening to plenty of music.

My new favourite is last name London, first name Theophilus - and it's more addictive than crack!

He hails from Brooklyn, New York City and his new album Timez Are Weird These Days has been kicking my arse with awesome for the last few weeks.

In fact I've been playing this album so much that I've been neglecting a whole stack of new albums that I really want to listen to. Oh well I'm sure I'll get to them eventually, until then, turn this new shit up and shout with me...

Funeral Party - NYC Moves To The Sound Of LA

There's been plenty of screechy vocals and a truckload of cowbell busting out of my speakers this year. One could almost say, I've got a fever... and the only prescription is more cowbell!

Thankfully the Funeral Party are here to help me out with some cracking rock tunes highlighting the fact that New York may or may not be stealing (or borrowing) what some like to call the L.A. sound.

I don't particularly wanna get involved in the NY Vs L.A. beef, to be honest I'm happy to sit back and let them duke it out on their own, as long as The Funeral Party keep making cracking songs like this I'm going to be more than happy.

Nada Surf - Blonde On Blonde

Well... Nada Surf, Blonde On Blonde, it's just one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

The New York three piece have been around since 92 and pumped out six albums in that time. This stunning tune is from their 2002 release, Let Go.

It's just such a soothing song that feels like a trip through the clouds in the arms of a loved one. Every time this song comes on I just drift away and forget about everything that troubles me.

It's like a soul cleansing in the form of pop rock genius, so hit the play button, find a comfortable seat, close those eyes and let your musical spa treatment begin.

Darwin Deez - Radar Detector

Darwin is a rad dude from New York who makes some sweet funky indie pop music. His dance moves are as fruity as his indie threads, and his leather head bands, while his film clips feature more artsy fartsy imagery than a share-house loft.

This song reminds me of two mates who drove from Radelaide to Sydney for a holiday. They got pulled over by a cop who told them he had a radar detector-detector and that he had detected that they had a radar detector on board, and then proceeded to search their car!

We felt this was a bit odd and when Sappers and Jezza got to Sydney the explained the whole bizarre story. We later asked a random cop if he'd ever heard of a radar detector-detector and the cop just laughed at us, and said there is no such thing, and the dodgy cop was just looking for a way to search their car.

So thanks for the great tune and great clip Darwin, and cheers Jezza and Sappers for the memories.

The Strokes - Reptilia

As Julian says himself 'Tell me a story, I know you're not boring' - so if I must, here goes.

The Strokes have released some super-wicked albums over the years, and while they've all been galavanting around with solo projects the last few years, I was very pumped to hear they would be one of the headliners for this year's Splendour In The Grass.

This is one of my favourite Strokes tracks, party because it's just awesome, and partly because of my cool vinyl a lovely friend gave me for my birthday once. That same very friend sat down the front row of a Big Day Out with my better half and didn't leave the fence the entire day, just to get close to Julian. In fact they ended up touching him, kinda creepy, and kinda cool. Now that friend is off to New York - plenty of Julian stalking/touching to follow.
