I am loving this album at the moment In Ghost Like Fading... I have had it on rotation for a while now and I am still not sick of it.
This clip is one of the standout tracks. I'm not sure if it's official or if someone has made if for a project as I couldn't seem to find any other clips - either way this song is a good one to give you a taste of what this band sounds like.
Hailing from Brooklyn, as are most bands these days, they have a psychedelic soul/folk sound which like this track and most others, starts of pretty mellow and then builds into quite powerful/soulful even ballad like crescendos.
The clip is pretty simple, there are no band shots, just a story - which I think works with the track.
A five piece based in Silver Lake, LA, Local Natives create some damn fine electric guitar driven folky tunes.
I'm loving their debut album, Gorilla Manor, at the moment and World News is certainly on of my favourite tunes being played of late.
I caught this clip late last night on TV and just had to feature it today. Although, if anyone has any idea what's going on in the film clip please let me know. As I'm a bit lost, but I don't mind at all, the song is so great, getting lost in the clip is half the fun.

I've heard Kev Carmody described as Australia's answer to Bob Dylan, and most certainly there are similarities in the structure and feel to his songs; but Carmody has something that Dylan never had and that is a cause - there is no confusion about the message in this song; it's 1989 and only a year after White Australia celebrated the bicentenary of European arrival on Australian shores, Aboriginal people are fighting for recognition of their place in Australia's history. The Mabo decision is but 3 years away, and in Australia 'times are a changing', Land Rights are becoming a topic of great debate and through music Indigenous Australians are finding a strong voice.
In this song Carmody addresses the hypocrisy of the so called 'civilising process', invoking the Christian commandment 'thou shalt not steel' to simultaneously attack the Church for it's role in the institutionalisation of Aboriginal children, as well as to draw attention to the dispossession of Aboriginal lands under the British Empire's so called Terra Nullius doctrine.
Thou Shalt Not Steal is delivered through a folk medium with an apparent air of the injustice and suffering found in much of the early 20th century downtrodden Mississippi blues. There is no self pity in Carmody's tone however, and the accompanying video powerfully re-enforces his message managing to capture the timeless essence of Rock and Roll by delivering a great big F**k You to the establishment....
Wow! I went and saw these crazy cultish folkers last night, and it was so damn good.
Who would have thought a guy in long john underwear and a scarf could command a crowd so damn well? Plus I've never been to a gig where the lead singers gets half the crowd on stage then asks the rest of the audience to sit down while he sings. Was certainly an experience.
I picked Home for the song today, because it just makes ya feel so damn good and warm inside. Go on, give it a listen and just try not to smile to yourself, I dare ya!
