The insanely awesome stoner jams of Battles. What can I say, this tune is catchier than hepatitis, and no where near as annoying. It's infectious beat gets you bumping along to that crazy chipmunk vocal (still not as annoying as autotune) without you even noticing.
You just know this tune was made in smokey haze with many a beer being consumed. Well that's the way I like to imagine it anyway.
I love the band chemistry from Battles - just a heap of guys going nuts on their instruments creating a killer tune. Made even cooler by the fact they're playing in a mirrored room.
There's space in everyone's music collection for a little Neil Young. One of the greatest song writers to ever grace this little world of ours, who's never scared to write songs about political bullshit and stupid wars, and of course drugs.
This tune is about the nasty effects of heroin, as Neil says at the start "a lot of great artists get effected by it, and a lot of great art does down the drain because of it.
I also love the Johnny Cash intro...

It is an all time classic number, and definitely rocks! Even though it is quite “pop-py”, it has a whole lotta ZEST.
Of course they had many other kick ar$e songs like ‘sorry’ and she’s so fine’, but this is my favourite. Check out Stevie Wright... he’s a bit of a nutter, but I like it!

Bon Iver stands out as one of my all time favourite gigs, as everything Justin Vemon and co do seems so powerful and heart felt. Seeing Vemon sing live at the Sydney recital hall was one of the single greatest moments of my life. If you've ever seen them live then I'm sure you've had a similar experience.
The haunting soft sound of the band playing while a crowd of a thousand people sit in absolute silence, in awe of what they are witnessing was certainly one of the most amazing gigs I've ever seen. Highlighted by the fact that the entire crowd was asked to join in for the final song, leaving half the audience in tears.

I've always been a fan of Luke Steele ever since the early Sleepy Jackson days, and when I first heard the Empire Of The Sun tunes he's done with Nick Littlemore of Pnau I was pretty excited to hear more from one of Australia's greatest song writers and musicians of the last decade.
Steele's make up and outfits got even crazier with the new band and it certainly added an extra element to his already bizarre public persona. This song came on while I was in the shopping centre today, and it had me singing along in the shop, I got a few strange looks but I didn't really care. haha, I'm sure Luke Steele's got a fair few strange looks over the years as well.

I've been thinking about what We Are Scientist song to feature since seeing them live last week with Ash. Their new album is super-catchy and full of great tunes - then there's my favourite tune from their first album, This Scene Is Dead.
I was going to go with my favourite and then I stumbled upon the clip for Chick Lit. It's a great pop rock tune off their second album, done with a country themed clip. But rather than being cattle herders, they're taking on a pack of tiny Pomeranian dogs. haha. Yep, it's a classic clip and a great tune. So Chick Lit gets the green light.
The only thing missing from the clip is the bass player's killer mustachio, but the lead singer is doing his best to bring back the silver fox look. Maybe I'll dye my hair?
