Justice vs Simian - We are Your Friends

We've all had big booze filled nights where everyone gets a bit out of control. On those truly wild nights you can be certain that there will be some pranks played, and at that very late point in the party there's only two kinds of people left. Those who are pulling the pranks, or those who have passed out and are about to cop it.

I've been on the end of both situations. From having penis's drawn on my face, to colouring in a mate's entire head with a permanent marker (he had a 3 hour trip home on public transport the next morning). It all adds up to one thing - you just had bloody huge night with some great mates.

What's the best booze-fueled prank you've played or sadly, had played on you?

Architecture In Helsinki - Heart It Races

So I know it's song of the day but I couldn't feature one of these clips without the other. Let me explain, lately I've been listening to a sweet African band called The Very Best (yep, it's a pretty bold name to say the least). Jay Bird saw them in Malawi at a festival and raved about them, and while I've been listening I couldn't help thinking one of their songs sounded pretty familiar. It turns out the song I was listening to was a sample of an Architecture in Helsinki track, so I checked it out, and came across this great clip. It's so happy and fun.

I love each version of the song, so have decided to feature them both. They both bring a smile to my face and put me in a great mood. Bonus points to the Architecture In Helsinki for their cool dress up outfits and use of the black light.

Johnny Cash - Hurt

This has to be one of the greatest covers of all time. Johnny Cash doing Nine Inch Nails song Hurt.

It's such a powerful film clip of an old and tired Cash looking back at his long and crazy career. The retrospective clip is made even more haunting by the fact that this was recorded by Cash less than a year before he passed away and the song became one of his final hits.

Mr Cash you were one crazily awesome man.

Ice Cube - It Was A Good Day

Yep, it's been one of those weeks for me. Everything is golden, and I'm not talking the shower version. Awards, gigs, events, everything's coming up Duck.

So I thought a little bit of Ice Cube would be appropriate! Got into this tune in a big way last year thanks to two awesome mates who educated me in the way of the hip-hop with some of the best playlists I've ever listened to. Plus there's a really cool Nike skate ad that features the song as well which I rather like, so I've included clips for both.

Hope you're having a good day...

Foals - Balloons

Two very different albums, a string of dance floor filling tunes, and 73 indie styled haircuts later, the English lads from Oxford are ready to play for my listening and dancing pleasure.

After banging on about them for the past two years to anyone that will listen - the day I get to see the Foals live is finally here, and I'm very pumped about it.

So do as I will be doing tonight, put on your dancing shoes and jump around like a crazy freak to Balloons.

Lily Allen - Not Fair

I've been in love with Lily Allen for quite a while now. Ever since the time I stood in the packed Kasabian Big Day Out crowd watching a topless Lily Allen dance like a regular punter on top of some random guys shoulders, I knew this party girl was something special. She was off chops and having the time of her life on her own. There's one thing for certain, and that's that Lily knows how to party.

Just when I thought my love for Lily couldn't get any stronger along came a country style Lily singing about her lovers inadequacies. Oh Lily, why do you keep doing it to me. At least my wife now has the country Lily haircut. hehe, my secret plans to turn Katie into Lily are finally coming to fruition!

I love the old-school feel of this clip, it reminds me of Weezer Buddy Holly clip a bit, gotta love the flash backs.

Kasabian - Empire

Kasabian are one of my all-time favourites! They're so damn good when it comes to a live show, and after three albums the band has bucked modern trends and actually come up with three distinctively different albums that don't sound exactly like the last.

They're back in Australia at the moment much to my delight, so I thought why not give the Leicestershire lads some SOTD loving by showing you one of my favourite Kasabian tunes.

This clip is great, although it's a tad confusing as the film clip show's a runner being shot, but it's not the clip to their tune Shoot The Runner which is off the same album.

Anyway, it's a cracker tune, with a killer clip. Can't wait to see them live again! What's your favourite Kasabian tune?

Bat For Lashes - What's A Girl To Do

Damn I love Bat For Lashes, Natasha Kahn has an amazing voice and is pretty damn beautiful at the same time.

I love this haunting song so damn much that I almost killed it for myself by playing it a little too much... and then I saw the film clip! Such a cool idea and executed really well. It embraces it's inner Donnie Darko a bit, which just makes it even cooler.

Anyone else feel like grabbing the bmx and stunt pegs and hitting the streets tonight in animal masks?

The Stills - Still In Love Song

I'd never heard of The Stills when a work colleague threw the CD at my head and jokingly said 'Oh Woodduck, this is shit, you and ya missus might like this one after a few cones'.

It turns out that rude (but thoughtful) work mate was actually right, not that it was shit, but rather that me and the missus really did like it.... So much so that it was on high rotation in our stereo for the entire year of 2003. It was their debut album, and two albums on The Stills are easily the coolest thing to come out of Canada since Terrance and Phillip.

So kick back and drink in this big warm cup of awesome. Mmmmm tasty!

Cloud Control - This Is What I Said

Cloud Control is a local Sydney band that’s been rocking my world lately as well as making waves in the local music scene of late. They're certainly one of the best Aussie bands getting around at the moment, and bring a smile to my face when ever I put their album on.

Their latest album Bliss Release is full of sweet and soft tracks that are like little cloud pillows for your weary ears. Their folky pop tunes make for a very happy lazy Sunday afternoon.

They're off to the UK for a tour before returning to Oz for Splendour In The Grass and a tour with The Magic Numbers, so if you get the chance to see them live, do so, you won't be disappointed.

I picked this song simply because makes me smile and feel happy... not a bad reason for a song of the day, I reckon.

British India - Avalanche

Melbourne Rockers British India are back with their third album and it's kicking my arse with it's awesomness at the moment. Earlier this year I was all about my overseas bands, but it's great to see there's some killer albums from Aussie artists starting to fill up my 'top ten' list of albums for 2010. This is making it on the list so far.

It's great to have some cool Aussie rock to listen to that hasn't been watered down, plus the clip has slow-mo, and what guy doesn't love some sweet slow-mo action?
